Perfect Your Hair Photos with These Simple Tips!

As a salon professional, you’ve got to play many roles. From service provider, to therapist, to chemist… and with the rise of social media marketing with salons, you now need to be a photographer as well. Your social media pages act as a digital portfolio, and you want to make sure you’re filling it with high quality photos of your work. In this blog post, we’re going to share tips, tricks and best practices for snapping gorgeous, high-quality photos every time.

Taking great photos of your clients' hair is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, it serves as a visual representation of your skills and expertise to potential future clients. It can also be used on social media platforms to showcase your work and attract new clients. Additionally, high-quality images can help you build credibility and establish yourself as a professional in the industry. Poorly taken or rushed photos may not accurately represent the color, texture, or style of the client's hair, which could lead to misunderstandings or miscommunications with future clients. By investing time in taking great photos of your clients' hair, you are demonstrating that you care about their overall experience and satisfaction with your services. TIPS AND TRICKS

TIP #1 PLAN AHEAD

Check out your day in advance to see which clients and services you want to showcase. This way, you can either let your guest know you'll be taking some photos so they're able to show up ready for pics! You can also book out a few extra minutes to make sure you get the right shot.

TIP #2 CONSISTENCY IS KEY

Find a few backdrops in your salon that are simple, clean, and won't take away from what you're trying to showcase. Don't overcomplicate it, establish the good photo op spots n your space and and stick to those!

TIP #3 LIGHTING

Whether it's natural or synthetic lighting, good lighting is necessary to get a great shot. If your salon has big windows, perhaps your photo op spot is near the windows to have natural light for your photo. Realistically, natural lighting is almost always the best option but if you don't have access to it, a ring light is a great second option! You can purchase a relatively inexpensive one on Amazon and it is a great investment to create beautiful photos to showcase your work!

TIP #4 EDITING

When necessary, adjust exposure or lighting of hair photos. It is important not to edit to the point where it is an inaccurate representation of your work, but feel free to make a few tweaks to make sure the cut and color shines in photos. We suggest using the editing tool right in your photo app or check out ColorStory or PhotoRoom for more editing options!

DO’S AND DON’TS

DON'T take a photo from the chair with a busy salon background. Typically, posture isn't the best while sitting in a chair and the busy background will distract from your beautiful work!

DO take a photo against a clean background with your client standing up- you'll get a crisp photo with your client having better posture!

DON'T take a straight on photo of their hair from behind.

DO have your guest cross their arms in front of their chest and lean their head back slightly. It will create a much more visually appealing photo!

DON'T take a straight on photo of their face.

DO work with angles! Have your guest lean forward and pop a hip or experiment with different angles. You'll be blown away by how much it changes your photo!

CONCLUSION

Taking high quality photos of your clients' hair is an essential skill for any salon professional looking to level up their game. Not only do quality photos perform better on social media and attract more potential clients, but they also showcase your skills and creativity in the best possible light. By investing a little extra time in planning, taking, prepping and posting photos of your work, you will be able to build a stronger online presence that sets you apart from the competition. So don't hesitate to put these tips and tricks into practice - your clients (and your business) will thank you for it!
