When you chose to be a salon owner, you chose to be a leader, a mentor, and someone that your team can look up to. It is so important to lead by example, especially when it comes to morale in salon. However, it can feel impossible to plaster a smile on your face and rock a sunny disposition when you’re stressed and distracted by your never-ending to-do list. In this blog, we’re giving you 5 super simple ways that you can make your day a little better so you can spread contagious positivity in your salon!
PS, if you need a few things taken care of on your to do list, we're here to help. Check out our list of simple and affordable digital marketing solutions here!
Positive Daily Practice #1: Micro Moments of Happiness
What simple things inevitably bring you joy and put a smile on your face? Maybe it’s the first sip of your favourite coffee in the morning, perhaps it’s when the beat drops in your go to pump up song, or maybe it’s watching an adorable video of a puppy. We all have these simple things that bring us micro moments of happiness during the day, but because they are so small, we tend to overlook them. We suggest making a list of 10 things that bring you micro moments of happiness. When you’re having a tough day or needing a boost, you can easily look to this list and figure out the quickest and easiest way to bring you happiness and positivity almost instantly!
Positive Daily Practice #2: Breathing Exercises
Breathing is one of the most powerful and instantaneous ways to change how you’re feeling, but it is something that very few of us are actually tuned into or aware of. We challenge you to start your day with a deliberate breathing exercise and to incorporate this practice when your day gets tough. Check out a few of these videos below to guide your breathing exercises until it becomes second nature!
Positive Daily Practice #3: Slow Morning Ritual
It can be difficult to get everything you need to get done in a day, and there’s nothing worse than finishing your day in the salon only to have to come home and continue working. It is a vicious cycle of waking up late because you were up too late cramming in work, rushing to get ready to head to the salon… rinse and repeat. We challenge you to push yourself to wake up just a little earlier in the morning so you can concentrate on fuelling yourself for the upcoming day. An extra hour in the morning can allow you to take your time showering and getting ready, eat a nutritional breakfast, and perhaps sneak in a workout, breathing exercise or meditation. It will blow your mind how much better you’ll feel throughout the day when you allow yourself the extra time to make sure you’re taken care of before the day starts. You need to have a full cup in order to pour into others, and an intentional morning of self care is the best way to do this.
Positive Daily Practice #4: Pre-work Positive Affirmations
Do you ever pull up to the salon angry and annoyed? Maybe one of your employees started complaining to you before your day even starts or perhaps there’s an issue with a client. Instead of storming into your salon with a chip on your shoulder, spend just a few minutes focusing on positive affirmations. No matter how bad things seem, there is always something positive to focus on that will help shift your mind set and allow you to bring positive energy into the salon with you. As the salon leader, you set the tone for the day as soon as you step foot through the door, so spending just a few minutes focusing on positive affirmations is a worthwhile investment of your time.
We’ve included a few positive affirmations for you to follow until you create your own!
Positive Daily Practice #5: Compliment Everyone You See
This is such a simple and easy practice to brighten your day and those around you with little to no effort. Everyone, I mean EVERYONE loves a compliment, whether they like to admit it or not. Choose one thing that you love about every person you come into contact with during your day at the salon and make them aware of it! Whether you like how their hair is styled that day or the shoes they’re wearing, or maybe even digging a little deeper and mentioning a personality trait you admire about the person, tell them! It feels just as good to give compliments as it is to receive them and though it may feel a bit awkward, you will absolutely be bringing light and positivity to every interaction.
CONCLUSION
We’ve all had our day soured by the negative energy from employees and clients alike, but as salon owners, it is your job to lead by example. We often forget about this amidst the daily chaos in the salon, but it is so important to remember to treat your mind right so you can be the best leader and mentor that you can be. Positivity attracts positivity, and we hope these 5 simple daily practices help bring some extra good vibes to you and your salon!
